Love Is a Structure Built on Emotion

Merely a human attempt to give structure to something as intangible as love.

Title: Love Is a Structure Built on Emotion

· · ·

Prologue

Is love simply something you "feel"?

Emotion is momentary, but a relationship demands endurance.

This is the question I started from.

· · ·

1. Love begins with emotion

Love always begins with emotion.

Attraction, the flutter of excitement, empathy, and connection.

These emotions are instinctive responses that make us feel alive.

But can emotion alone become a "sustainable love"?

· · ·

2. Emotion alone is not true love

True love goes beyond emotion.

Within it, there must always exist

a passion that takes responsibility for both myself and the other.

That passion is the will to care for another and to grow together,

and the practical strength to hold on to the relationship all the way to the end.

· · ·

3. The three pillars of love — emotion, romance, responsibility

Love is made up of three elements:

• Emotion is the beginning.

• Romance makes that emotion beautiful.

• Responsibility makes that romance real.

And the energy that holds all of this up is passion.

In other words, love is "passion grounded in romance and responsibility."

4. The structure of love — laid out through logic

Can love be explained philosophically?

Translated into a logical structure, it looks like this:

Definition:

Love = Emotion + Responsibility + Passion infused with Romance

Premises:

1. P_1: Love begins with emotion.

2. P_2: Emotion alone cannot become complete love.

3. P_3: Only when responsibility and romance are added does passion become a sustainable energy.

4. P_4: Love without passion easily fades away.

Conclusion:

True Love

= Emotion + Responsibility + Romantic Passion

Love is not the sum of emotions,

but a structure organized out of will and meaning.

· · ·

5. Marriage is the structural extension of love

This is how I define marriage:

"Marriage is a partnership contract grounded in love."

If love is the flow of emotion,

then marriage is the act of building a bridge over that flow.

When romance and responsibility, practice and agreement are bound into one,

the relationship becomes a sustainable "journey."

· · ·

Epilogue

Love is a beautiful emotion.

What if we gave love a structure?

I have tried to define love by structuring it.

To protect love,

to keep ourselves from simply letting emotion flow away,

when we design a structure that takes responsibility for that emotion,

I believe we can become, in the truest sense, "beings who love."

· · ·

One-line summary

Love begins with emotion,

but it is completed as a passionate structure grounded in romance and responsibility.
