These Days, I Am Truly Grateful
Will I come to know it? That Vienna waits for me after all. These days, more than having more, what makes me happy is that there are more people in my life to be grateful for.
I have clear strengths — and of course, plenty of shortcomings too.
But there is not a single regret in my life.
There won't be any going forward, either.
That is my resolution.
And these days, I am truly grateful.
Good people have come into my life.
People who listen to my story,
people who cheer for what I do,
people who make me want to become a little better just by being around them.
And one good person has come into my life.
That someone's mere existence
can make me want to live my day a little better —
that turns out to be a far more remarkable thing than I expected.
In the past, I endured simply because I had to,
and I kept walking because there was somewhere I had to go.
But these days it's a little different.
There are people who genuinely hope I do well,
and there is now someone I want to be good to in return.
So when I open my eyes in the morning, sometimes I think:
I should try a little harder.
I should become a little better a person.
I should live a little more properly.
I should become someone who isn't shameful before the people who came to my side.
And because you are here.
Once I've thought of that fact too,
I find myself wanting, for no particular reason, to live today a little better.
These days,
more than being happy about having more,
it's that there are more people to be grateful for in my life —
and that feels so good.
That kind of
morning worth looking forward to.
