Watching President Lee Jae-myung since his days as mayor of Seongnam: less a politician who insists on one method than a person who changes himself to fit the situation.
President Lee Jae-myung, whom I have watched since his days as mayor of Seongnam, is less a politician who insists on a single method than a person who changes himself to fit the situation.
When the situation is rough, he pushes hard; when time is short, he decides fast. Conversely, given room to cooperate and enough time, he would likely have moved more gently, with more ease.
So it is not accurate to see only his forceful side and conclude that his character is inherently aggressive. He is not a man who can only act that way — he is a man acting that way because, right now, that is what the moment demands.
What impresses most of all is that even with age he keeps studying, keeps improving his bearing, checks things firsthand, and keeps making the effort.
I do not agree with every one of his judgments,
but in the history of our presidents, isn’t that diligence and situational judgment alone worthy of recognition?
The hope for a better Republic of Korea is one we all share alike.
